The Telecom Outside Plant (TOSP) business unit of Tyco Electronics offers quality components for fibre optic, copper, copper connect & coax and mobile networks. For the TOSP factory / Headquarters, located in Kessel-Lo (Leuven), Tyco Electronics is currently looking for a Manufacturing Manager.

Main Tasks and Responsabilities

The manufacturing manager is responsible for production, maintenance and manufacturing engineering of the Kessel-Lo TOSP factory. He or she should execute, maintain and improve the manufacturing process and ensure the factory fulfils its business role (customer orders on time and at target quality and cost) and delivers the KPI’s (safety, quality, cost, efficiency …) on target.

Key activities of the manufacturing manager role are:

Strategic planning
• Develop yearly objectives, targets and action plan in alignment with the Kessel-Lo Operations plan;
• Communicate and deploy objectives and individual work plans to all levels in the organization;
• Develop the annual plant budget and obtain management approval.

Organization capability & Performance management
• Maintain an organization structure and put in place the necessary roles and people to support the manufacturing plan;
• Maintain staffing and succession plans, interview & recruit personnel and guide organization changes;
• Develop a career plan for the manufacturing team members and guide their development.

Tactical management
• Manage the day-to-day activities of the factory;
• Track and report the manufacturing KPI’s;
• Implement and maintain management systems to control activities (eg ISO 9000)
• Define the scope of improvement projects by using Six Sigma methodology , obtain capital budget approval and staff the project teams.
• Drive the implementation of the Tyco Electronics Lean manufacturing program.
• Guide the scale-up runs of new products/materials by R&D.

Internal & external relations and networking
• Represent manufacturing in local works council and safety committee meetings.
• Network with other TE plants, R&D, product management, sales.
• Guide customer and supplier visits to the factory

The manufacturing manager reports to the operations manager of the Kessel-Lo site.

Profile

• Engineering background;
• Approximately 10 years of experience in manufacturing environment (production, maintenance, engineering, quality, projects, …) in a 50+ employee plant;
• Industry background: assembly, high mix-low volume, job shop, automated production lines;
• Good understanding of implementation of factory logistics (eg JIT, kanban), ERP systems (e.g. SAP) and operational excellence (5S, Six Sigma, Lean);
• Strong communication and people management skills;
• Strong analytical skills;
• Action and result oriented.
