POSITION SCOPE:
As the Controller you will be a member of the senior management team developing and planning the strategic objectives and goals of the company. You will be responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of accounting, MIS, credit/collection, payroll, and financial analysis functions to meet both the current and long term needs of the company.
Your role is to provide the financial infrastructure, through analysis, planning, forecasting, costing and data mining that will form the foundation for significant company growth across North America and in Global Markets.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Strategy:
•Participates in the development of the company’s long range strategic plan.
•Formulates long range MIS plans (including the selection of hardware and software) that support the implementation of the company’s strategic plan.
•Oversees the design and implementation of financial information systems and seeks ways to improve financial reporting and controls.
•Maximizes the use of technologies to reduce costs and enhance the development and delivery of services.
•Establishes, assesses, implements and maintains accounting policies and procedures.
•Reviews and streamlines systems and processes to maximize efficiency and productivity.
•In cooperation with senior management, prepares the annual budget for incorporation into the corporate business plan; monitors the budget and reports on variances.
•Establishes and maintains solid banking relationships
•Enhances the credibility of the accounting department by promoting a culture of cooperation, trust and support.
Financial Operations:
•Establishes and maintains an accounting system which guarantees the accurate presentation of financial results.
•Directs the development of profit plans and analyses and challenges profit plan assumptions and elements.
•Directs preparation of accounting and financial reports. Reviews and analyses monthly financial reports and provides interpretive comments and recommendations.
•Develops, implements and maintains effective and efficient accounting, payroll, credit and collection, internal control, and management information systems within the company.
•Functionally supervises all accounting activities and ensures adherence to corporate financial and accounting policies.
•Manages the accounting team by providing ongoing leadership, training and development.
•Monitors and evaluates receivables and ensures timely collections to minimize bad debt losses.
•Ensures all payrolls are issued in accordance with company procedures and that payroll taxes and related reports are filed with appropriate government authorities.
•Establishes, implements and maintains an adequate system of record retention within the company.
•Manages cash flow and prepares cash flow projections and other reports to support applications for financing.
•Reviews all capital expenditure requests and ensures required financial analysis has been completed, where required.
•Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
Financial Reporting:
•Prepares year end working papers and acts as corporate liaison with external auditors to ensure audited annual financial statements receive unqualified opinions and are on time and on budget
•Prepares all SEC statutory reports and ensures compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
•Ensures full compliance with all regulatory bodies including but not limited to taxation matters, legal issues and trademarks.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
•Must have minimum 5 years experience in a controller position.
•Must have working knowledge of Canadian GAAP and CSA regulations, SOx and SEC Reporting.
•Will demonstrate excellent technical skills in data management, data mining, Excel reporting and spreadsheet design.
EDUCATION:
•University Degree or equivalent post secondary education.
•CA/CPA/CMA or CGA
